6.1 Overview

This section examines the atomic structure of atoms. We start with the basic version of an atom you most likely learned in junior school and then start to move into move complicated models of atomic structure.


What you need to realise is that we are talking about models that are used to explain and predict observations seen in the lab. The models give up a visual representation of how an atom works, but does not really mean it looks like that. By the end of this section you will have a better understanding of atomic structure and be able to use your understanbding to explain and predict properties of atoms and even start looking into bonding ideas.
